Extract thumbnial image from Word, Excel, PowerPoint

In modern versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint the applications create a small thumbnail image of the first page of the file and store this thumbnail inside the .doc, .xls or .ppt file. We want a program that will extract this thumbnail image from a given input file and return it. If no thumbnail is available, it will return an error code.
