It is better to use Arduino than Raspberry Pi if you consider cost. However please note that your choice of sensor, ultrasonic sensor best work 2m distance and 1 width at that distance . Therefore the sensor should be placed average shoulder height or bit below. and entrance should be narrow. and to play greeting a recorder chip could be used. But if you use Raspberry Pi and Camera you could get great result. You could use Open CV to detect motion of people and calculate the direction they travel and greet people accordingly. Hi sir/maam, the sensor must be used is two ultrasonic sensor or two IR sensor that is mount on the side of the door so that the two ultrasonic sensor or IR will know if the person is entering or leaving the place. I have a project similar with this one please let me help you with this project.
