Finish Arduino Sketch

Hi there, I'm working on a postgraduate project based around a muscle sensor for Arduino. I'm looking for someone with plenty of Arduino/microcontroller experience who is able to find the best way to move this forward. I'm working on this full-time right now, but am completely new to this way of thinking, have a deadline coming up and need an expert... Sorry this may be a bit of a mouthful to explain and I hope you can follow me, but what I need to ultimately produce is this: an entirely separate video will be played on screen (not related to this program). When cued to do so on screen, the user presses a button to launch the Arduino program. The separate video will show a short slideshow of images (around 12), and the user will be invited to react to some of the images by raising their eyebrows. Each time the user reacts (by raising their eyebrows) while the program is running (30 seconds), this will be read as HIGH, and the time of the spike in millis will be logged in the serial monitor. When the minute has passed, the accumulation of logged times will then be calculated in the program and output some kind of (probably) numerical result, which I can use to analyse the images they reacted to - the number outputted could be the total number of millis logged (eg. total 50 if they raised their eyebrows while image A was displayed at 2 seconds, image D was displayed at 21 seconds, and image H was displayed at 27 seconds), or ideally a simplified version of this number (as there will only be a small amount of images for the user to react to, I imagine the results could be grouped, so 1-3 seconds = 1, 2-3 seconds = 2, etc, and the totals within these groups are totalled instead. At the moment, I'm just trying to achieve this functionality using 2 buttons, so one launches the program, and the other one logs times. But I'm having enough trouble with this. If you are able to spend the next day helping me get this figured out, or have any ideas at all that may be useful, I'd be so pleased.
