I work with Linux servers daily both at work and home and I configure SSH/SFTP regularly on RHEL/CentOS & Debian servers in both legacy datacentres and cloud hosts. We'll go through a few steps to check connectivity and basic host setup, including checking if the sshd service is running, seeing if the port is accessible from elsewhere and ensuring your keys/passwords are setup correctly.
