We are iGEM Athens, an interdisciplinary student team that will participate in the iGEM 2019 Competition. Synthetic biology, in short, is about synthesising a system from different pieces, called parts, using the principles of engineering alongside biology. In short, during the iGEM competition, teams around the world develop a synthetic biology project to tackle a societal (or not) problem of their choice. Our team is working towards the establishment of a novel method for the directed evolution of aptamers. Aptamers are short oligonucleotide sequences that are able to bind with high specificity and affinity to a target. We would like to propose a novel method that can be applied by anyone, anywhere - as long as there is the appropriate laboratory space. Our project is called MEDEA (Machine-Enhanced Directed Evolution of Aptamers). We are looking for a project logo that can effectively capture the essence of our project. A minimal-futuristic style would be appropriate, although this is not restrictive. A rough draft is required with bidding.
