Hello, We already have such module ready , import data from excel to mssql with .net. Actually we have 2 versions , one is simple import with fixed fields from excel to fixed field in database. Second is providing way to mapping of fields in mssql database and excel file and then data based on mapping of fields. In both it will give you detail report of successful and error data. Second option will cost you $500 and 5 days , but against that you will have flexibility of future expansion. Waiting to head start. Regards, Anis Vora

I have more than 12 years in development with Microsoft technologies, and I worked in projects with ASP, VB6 and SQL Server 2000, and I started working with it as soon as it came out and kept working with it until today. On one of my past projects, I did an Excel to SQL Server import process, so I have experience in the field. However, I have some questions about your specific requirements I'd like to know: 1 - I looked at the sample sheet you posted, but I couldn't identify the PK of the table. Is this an Identity field in the table? 2 - Does the process need to check if the row already exists, or just insert everything on the sheet? 3 - In case of import errors, do you want an Excel file to be created with the rows that weren't imported, or just a message or grid showing the errors? I'm quite possitive I can finish the project within the mentioned timeframe (3 days), including testing and bugfixing. I also have SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 to complete the project with the technologies you requested. I retired in 2002 after 25-years developing database appplications for a range of clients. I had a decent run on Elance doing similar things and then got into a long term engagement with a client in the Netherlands doing SQLServer development that ran for a few years. In 2007 I returned to freelancing and worked through Elance through 2008 when I got into another long term engagement. Now I'm back on Elance but you have to go a few years back in my profile to see client assessments of my capabilities, Both of these engagements involved the design and development of applications in C#.Net to provide interfaces to SQL databases and the second involved the import of a good deal of data from Excel. Since then I've continued SQLServer and C# development but in the desktop environment. I develop using VS 2010 and SQLServer 2008R2 and am in the process of upgrading to SQLServer 2012 so I have easy access to a development and testing environment. Left to my own devices I would use C#.Net for this project but VB.Net works just as well for me and I'll use whichever you prefer. I realize you are looking for simple, so I have a few questions that would need to be addressed before I code the application: (1) do you want the program to provide an Open File dialog to select the file to be processed or should I assume a fixed location and filename? (2) I'm not sure while you want the file transferred to the server but do you want the program to provide a Save File dialog or should I assume a fixed location and filename on the server; (3) do you anticipate more than one spreadsheet format? and (4) will the SQL script need to create the database? I anticipate putting all of the "fixed" information (server name/address and file location information at least) in a config file. I assume that database security will be set up to use Windows Authentication or that an unencrypted config file with user and password information is acceptable. At any rate this all seems pretty simple and won't require a major effort. My bid reflects 8-10 hours of effort on my part. I plan to deliver within a week and provide 2-3 weeks of follow-up support at no additional cost. I look forward to hearing from you.
