Project: Add search engine function to website Aim: Users to be able to search a select number of websites from our site for key words and return results in table with clickable links to originating websites - we want to get started with a basic scalable version that we can scale up and build on in subsequent projects Details: I understand this needs a search spider and an index of content from the chosen target websites on a database Website set up: basic html website currently with links to mySQL database for client information feeds Websites to Search: UK Business news websites like BBC/News, [login to view URL], [login to view URL], google/news/uk etc - up to 20 to start but must be scalable to 100 ++ for future User Journey Example: 1. User wants to search for references to company L'Oreal on target websites 2. User types in LOreal into search box 3. Mini serach engine searches target websites and lists any references to LOreal with clickable link to originating website 4. Results are displayed in boxes on our website with originating website as title eg box 1 = results from [login to view URL], box 2 = results fron [login to view URL] etc Rationale for project: Existing search engines return too much irrelevant data on these searches - white lable search engine companies are too expensive for us as we are very small Tech spec: most popular Explorer browser versions out of html website Timing: ASAP May 2006 Project Steps: - Choose supplier based on price, timing, references, relevant experience, understanding, customer service - Set up project with escrow account NB no upfront payment possible - Map search engine functionality - Confirm viability of target websites - Tech spec - Website map - Project Plan and timetable - Design template (for results page) - Search spider algorithm - Index webpages on database - Test version on programmers website - Launch beta version on our website - Full launch Budget: - $1000 - $2000 to be paid in installments of $100-250 as key stages are delivered
