.Net to Java Development Example

We are a .NET shop with a development staff attuned to developing applications in C# using Visual Studio (5) on the .NET 2.0 platform.? Most of our code is server-based, but we have several individuals who have a solid understanding of ASP.NET.? They have written a web-server (IIS) page in ASP.NET that presents the end user with a web page containing a custom control (managed by javascript on the web page).? This code all works today. We have an immediate need to port the web server portion of this application into Java.? We have no prior experience with Java, but we learn very quickly.? Our frustration is that the Java world speaks a different language from the .NET world (pun intended) and we are having a hard time seeing what elements in the Java world relate to those in the .NET world that we are familiar with.? What we need is a simple “Rosetta Stone?? In .NET: Create a simple Visual Studio solution (i.e. with a complete solution file containing one or more projects) using Visual Studio 5 and IIS 6.0 and ASP.NET 2.0, that: 1. Puts up a simple web page with two button controls labeled “Process?? and “Done??, and? a multi-line text box on a different page that is hosted inside of an iFrame 2. When the page is initially displayed, the ASP code (“code behind??) should open an XML file stored on disk and parse a line of text from that file.? The XML tags in the file do not matter as long as it is syntactically correct XML. 3. The parsed sentence of text should be displayed in the multi-line text box on the web page 4. When the “Process?? pushbutton is pressed, the form is posted to the ASP codebehind on the web server, which converts the text to lower case, and posts it back to the text box in the iFrame on the web page.? This step can be repeated any number of times. 5. When “Done?? is pressed, the form should post the text to the center of an empty new page. ? In Java: Convert this application to Java (JRE 1.5 is preferable) using JSP with servlet(s) for the code in place of the ASP code.? Instead of IIS, it should run under Apache/Tomcat (Apache 2.2 is fine).? You can use whatever development environment makes sense ??" Eclipse, Idea, etc. 1. You must detail all of the tools (with versions) you used.? Note that we are currently trying to configure and use Eclipse Europa, Jetbrains Idea IDE 7, and Apache 2.2 with Tomcat.? Use of these is not manditory, but is a bonus. 2. The HTML code must be as close as possible between the two implementations 3. The XML input file should be the same for both implementations 4. You must provide us with all of the project files to build and / or execute the application 5. You must provide us with clear English-language instructions on how each piece should be installed and configured 6. And ??" the application must run in an equivalent manner to the .NET version detailed in step 1 above. And finally, all of the above should include enough documentation to make the following clear: * Details to deploy and run the projects above. * If there are any translations between the technologies that are obscure, these should be pointed out in documentation.?
