Project: Email Manipulation
Overview
Scripts will be used to retrieve email messages every 5 minutes and using templates, resend the messages to new addresses with customizations.
Timing: 1 week
Budget: $300
Preferred Environment:
OS - CentOS 7
Perl
Email Retreival - Google GMail Account
Email Send - [login to view URL] or Amazon SES (Simple Email Service- Region Ireland)
Description
Using scripts, retrieve and log all Gmail email messages received (using a specific label assigned by an incoming rule based on incoming email address).
For each incoming message, resend a new message based on incoming email address (example: jjaloupie+50012020@[login to view URL]). A table will be searched for the value between + and @ (50012010) which return a new email address and certain customized fields (example: value, customername, clientname) for the new message and which template to use. Templates will be used for the new email message which will include the body of the original message along with the customized fields. These may include images and style changes.
The new message will be sent using a mailgun or aws ses account. Each message received and sent will be logged showing incoming address, time of incoming message, outgoing address, time of outgoing message and size of message.
Any errors will be logged with an email sent to a specific email address with details of the error.
Incoming email messages may be text or html but will not have attachments.
Table to search for values may be a text or csv table.
Unless you already have another templating module in mind, I propose to use either HTML::Template or Template::Toolkit for generating the e-mail contents. Net::SMTP or Email::Sender::Simple can be used for actually sending the e-mail.
As long as you have the SMTP credentials for Amazon / Mailgun, using their mail servers should be straight forward. I can set up a CRON job to retrieve the e-mails periodically.
Questions:
- What volume of e-mails do you expect on each retrieval?
- Do you want to use a file or a database for logging?
I am based in Ireland - please note the timezone difference.

Hello! I think that a better choice will be using Python instead of Perl.
Python already has libraries that will simplify work with Gmail. Also, it has a library for mailgun service
In the result script will work like:
1. Auth to Gmail (Note: Here can be several ways. It need to be discussed)
2. Read all messages
3. Filter them by label and date
4. Search for new email and fields values. (Note: Is it a database? Or simple CSV file?)
5. Create a new message with the filled template at the top
6. Send them to a new email
Also, all info like (income datetime, outcome datetime, etc.) will be logged.
I recently did a job where I read email from an account via the gmail api. It was email from an amazon seller via email. Every time a new email arrives the process is started to fulfill their orders. The information is then saved in a database for further processing. It is based on simply the word „shop now“ appearing in the subject line. Here we use a cron job that checks every ten minutes.
