Cheylesmore Secondary, Coventry, UK Current Activities Since moving to Turkey I have been developing a number of Microsoft Word Visual Basic macros to process old Turkish texts and to produce grammatical indexes. These indexes will be included in several books to be published in 2001. At present the production of these indexes requires a lot of manual work, I would like to automate this as much as possible. My long term aim is to convert these macros into executable programmes and make them available for use on the internet. During previous employment I have concentrated on user / system support and I believe that I have provided a service that has met the users needs. In the past I have designed and written applications using C. Presently I am interested in learning object orientated techniques and web based application development. User Support While working with Marconi I was assigned to a multinational research team developing a solid-state airborne radar system. The main objective of this post was to upgrade a secure network of SUN workstations from SunOS to Solaris. I developed and wrote radar measurement data processing software which ran under SunOS, Solaris, Windows 95 and Windows NT. In this post I was responsible for the specification of software and hardware upgrades for PCs used for engineering, presentation and general office duties. I was also responsible for data and software configuring applications and providing general user assistance to mathematicians, mechanical and electrical engineers and secretarial staff. I was a member of a team evaluating Object Oriented embedded real-time programme design tools. 1989/96 CSC Scotland Healthcare, Edinburgh, UK Working for a Drug Information Service I finalised the software for a National Viewdata Service which ran on a MicroVAX using VMS. Programming in C and C++ for Windows. I worked on a number of small projects including writing an Information Technology Survey, statistical analysis on patient/nurse dependency and for a colposcopy research project using SPSS. At the end of this position I supported five financial systems running under UNIX on Data General, ICL and AT&T machines. 1987/89 The Scottish Council for Educational Technology (SCET), Glasgow, UK Apart from acting as a computer manager for their small computer system and providing technical advice I was involved in a research project in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Edinburgh University. This consisted of the designing, development and evaluation of a language based tool-kit for special educational needs. After working with computers for a number of years I decided to take an opportunity to further my interests in the arts by taking B.A. After gaining a basic foundation in the arts I went on to study the Enlightenment, Modern Art and Modernism, Romantic Poetry and Early Renaissance Art. This was basically a continuation of my HND with a stronger emphasis of the theoretical aspects of computing. 1973/75 Lanchester Polytechnic, UK Higher National Diploma (HND) At Lanchester I obtained an Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Studies. The course had a commercial bias and was designed to provide students with an appreciation of the use of computers in business. The course gave me an introduction to business organisation as well as a foundation in computing. Secondary Education 1971/73 King Henry VIII, Coventry, UK My Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) grades enabled me to enter King Henry VIII to take Advanced Levels, this was the first time a student had made this type of transfer. After a difficult period of trying to adjust to a more academic style I obtained three Advanced Level passes. -/1971 Cheylesmore Secondary, Coventry, UK At Cheylesmore I took an interest in the arts which lead to some of my work was been exhibited at the Coventry Schools Exhibition.
