I am looking for some ideas on how to alter a product to better suit my needs. I m looking for both changes to design, ideas and also a brief on the electronic aspects of this project. It must be achievable and practical.
Currently I have a simple product that is made of plastic and attaches to the wall of urinals via a magnet. People urinate in it and it measures their urine temperature via a colour changing liquid crystal set at 38 degC. Also urine fills the device and urine colour can be observed through the clear Perspex top. A sticker is on the Perspex displaying different urine colours. The urine drains away slowly through two small holes.
I want to change this to electronically measure temperature and provide an alert if urine temperature greater than 30 degC. This can be visual or audible. Battery power will be required and must last at least 30 days. I appreciate the device will need to be modified to accommodate components. Costs must be kept to a minimum. Who ever is successful will then work with me on developing the device moving forward in a separate job. A simple CAD design will also need to be provided showing expected size and design.
NOTE - Please design temperature sensor and electronics to work with existing model supplied. We can manufacture to a larger size to accommodate electronic components but it must be similar in design.
Suggestions
Suggest electronics be designed to fit into base of unit with temperature sensor in urine capture compartment hidden behind coloured scale. In regards to battery life - can a fluid sensor be used to turn on electronics only when fluid is present? If urine temperature less than 38, Green light display, if greater than 38, Red light. Or perhaps a light only if higher than 38. Perhaps an audible alert if temp above 38deg. These will be mass produced so must be easily manufactured. Lots of different options to consider.
