IHS WEBSITE & NOMENCLATURE REDESIGN
Background: The International Hibiscus Society is a web-based group dedicated to promoting global interest in growing hibiscus. In recent years we have become the official registrar of new varieties of hibiscus.
Our website went online in 2006 in the days of FAT32 with all the structural limitations that were inherent with this file structure. With the introduction of the NTSC file structure, these limitations were eliminated but our website still uses the original structural design as many of the php programs rely on it. In recent years the site was changed to a CMS (Joomla) to modernize the site. As part of the conversion to Joomla, our online registration form was moved to a component of Joomla. Although this form has many capabilities including strong field validation, its major flaw is the inability to automatically insert new records directly into the database.
Skills: MySQL database knowledge, Bootstrap 3 or 4, PHP 7, HTML 5, Javascript
Programing Requirements:
Part 1. To redesign and revamp the entire website ensuring that it is mobile compliant and needs all current technological standards while retaining all the current content.
Part 2. To recreate the registration form to automatically insert new records into the database while maintaining all the current functionality as well as including programming procedures that were not possible in Joomla. Please feel free to access the form but please be careful not to use the submit buton as this is an active form. Also attached at the end of this document is a field by field description of the required validations.
Part 3: The second requirement will be to modernize the program that approves the new records, updates the database and sends an email to the registrant that their cultivar has received official approval.
Part 4: To create a program that queries the database to compile selected information based on selected parameters in a format similar to a Word document that can be saved as either a document or a PDF file. This would allow us to produce a printout of all registered cultivars for a given year or for a particular month within a given year.
