Experienced Organic Chemist

I have 18 years experience in synthetic organic chemistry (1994-2012) including medicinal chemistry, material chemistry, self-assembly, catalysis and process chemistry. Specific areas of expertise include synthesis of porphyrins, phthalocyanines, corroles, terpyridines and their metal complexes. Industrial experience include multi-step synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, APIs, petrochemicals, agrochemicals, energetic materials and non-nutritive sweeteners. I have initiated and managed collaborative research in both academia and industries. I have 24 publications in scientific journals including Science and 2 review articles in scientific journals including Chemical Reviews and 1 book chapter. I have been awarded with 4 issued US patents, 12 issued PCT, European and other patents. I specialize in organic synthesis and scientific writing and editing including novel work-plans for applying SBIR grants.

Nanoassembly of a Fractal Polymer: A Molecular "Sierpinski Hexagonal Gasket

Mathematics and art converge in the fractal forms that also abound in nature. We used molecular self-assembly to create a synthetic, nanometer-scale, Sierpinski hexagonal gasket. This nondendritic, perfectly self-similar fractal macromolecule is composed of bis-terpyridine building blocks that are bound together by coordination to 36 Ru and 6 Fe ions to form a nearly planar array of increasingly larger hexagons around a hollow center.
