Drupal Expert - Want To Change My Image Gallery

I run [url removed, login to view] and want to change the way my photo gallery works. Each of my posts typically have 5 or 6 thumbnails attached where a user can click to enlarge.
However, the image can only enlarge as wide as the body of my template allows (510 pixels). I want the page to reload and allow for a much larger image (800 pixels wide). Essentially, I would like a new template to get built that will still show my advertising and some important links, but allow the new width.
Examples of sites that do this:

or
[url removed, login to view]
Notice how the image is enlarged and the thumbnails from the set are available on the side or above promoting click through. Ads are also in place.
I want my site to handle images this way.
