Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Power System Assignment 1
The assessment for this course is to design a substation and the associated protection
System. The transformer is an existing 33 kV to 11 kV 5 MVA 50Hz transformers, 3 phase/3
Phase Transformer. The choice of transformer connection method, transformer protection and
Cooling method is left up to the student. The choice of overhead or underground line feed,
protection system, earthling, metering, insulators, security (physical) and associated
switchgear, etc. is left up to the student. A line flow diagram of the proposed substation
Layout is expected as is the consideration of external events such as lightning protection, etc.
Each student is expected to work alone and to produce a short, typed Engineering Report
(Maximum 8 pages including appendices, summary)
Detailing the design and justifying each decision.
Specific information which will be required is as follows:
• Type of line - i.e. type of poles, insulators, type of conductor, etc.
• Ratings of the Transformer 33/11 kV (Z% = 20%).
• Outgoing cable.
• MVA Rating of the 11 kV breaker and fault current.
• Protection requirements.
• Earthing.
• Safety requirements.
Hello. I am an Electronics Engineer, Academic and Article writer and was a Lecturer and understood your requirement and can complete the assignment and send you across in less duration of time. Thanks.
