Build me a functionality to convert readonly form to editable mode on clicking edit button

My project has a readonly cards which has edit button only for current day card, I want a functionality such that when clicked on edit button it have to use the read only mode form "id" and call a method to replace it with existing formHtml function so that it gets editable mode on to that [login to view URL] the form is changed to editable mode it should still have the previous values showing in the input fields of the form. Need to be javascript prototyping and jQuery and use of proper css
