Java Tutorial

I want to learn to code in Java to eventually create some applications for myself. I am in need of a tutorial that will guide me through the very basics, requirements, and which provides useful code examples that will allow me to cut and paste until I become comfortable and familiar with structures and conceps. I would prefer Java, but some people have said that Pithon is more versitile. Please advise on which you believe would fit my needs for general applications. I plan on creating some small games, and other interactive tools. So, I'm unsure which language would benefit me more. Some code examples I'm interested in include: * How to display custom messages as alerts or when key-strokes are applied. * How to click buttons and gain a response, * How to play audio files in background or when performing actions. * How to store and retrieve data. * Designing a menu. Lastly, please provide specific information on what I will need to install on my PC to get started with coding, compiling, ETC. I like Textpad as my editor.
