Simple Flash / XML problem needs to be solved

We have an english flash- website with XML backend. Now we want to translate it to german. Everythink works fine but we cannot handle special characters like "ß,ö,ü,ä" etc. We tried to use system.codepage=true in flash but its not working. I need you to solve this problem.
